Skellig Distillers Ltd. was established in 2017 by June O’Connell, Patrick Sugrue and Patrick Cooney, with the vision of creating a whiskey and gin distillery and helping revitalise the working economy in the Skellig area. A vacant industrial premises in Cahersiveen was converted into the Skellig Six18 Distillery where production of Skellig Six18 Pot Still Gin commenced in 2019. 2020 brought with it the opening of a visitor experience at the distillery and saw Skellig Six18 Pot Still Gin gain national distribution. Export also commenced on a D2C level in 2020 with B2B export expected to begin in 2022 targeting France, Germany and the UK as priority markets, following a detailed RTM study carried out in 2021.

Plans are at an advanced stage work to commence on the installation of a whiskey plant at the Skellig Six18 Distillery in 2022, with distillation expected to commence on-site in 2023.
