Plastic: all plastic punnets are made from 80% recycled materials and are 100% recyclable. Keelings is a leading partivcipant o fhte platic alliance, an alliance created to reduce the amount of plastic used. A compostable punnet was trialied in 2018 on our strawberries wiht mixed results. We have removed MDF and replaced wiht cardboard across our bumper boxes. We continue to explore sustainable packaging alternatives.
We are the only Irish grower producing 100% table top strawberries, a method of growing strawberries that limits the build-up of pests and diseases, thus ensuring the highest quality strawberries. In 2009, we built a new 50,508 square meters state of the art strawberry glasshouse on our farm, resulting in the ability to produce over 100 million Irish Strawberries for the Irish market and extend the season into December. Keelings Soft Fruit grow 500 linear kilometres of crop producing 2500 tonnes of 100% protected Irish berries between April and Mid December. Our 5 hectare glasshouse, in addition to our existing glass, tunnel and field crops, ensures we are the largest softfruit glasshouse growers in Ireland. This also takes 313 trucks off our roads annually that would traditionally have been used to import softfruit. Keelings Farms have achieved European certification for their strawberry, raspberry and blackberry production in Ireland.
