This is the unbroken story of a landscape tended by the same family for generations. A story of careful stewardship, of years spent nourishing and protecting the rich soil in this fertile corner of Ireland.
The Stafford family is as rooted in county Wexford as the harvest they lovingly produce. They are potato growers, famed for the quality and consistency of their crops. Theirs is the proud heritage of a humble staple. And now that has produced another yield – of premium, locally sourced, locally distilled spirits.
John Stafford is the Managing Director of Slaney Farms Produce Ltd, a grower and supplier of high quality potatoes to retail multiples and wholesalers throughout Ireland.
Stafford Spirits was established in June 2016. It spent 2 years developing the Jackford Gin brand to create the first genuine potato base recipe for Gin in Ireland using potato by-product from the Stafford Family farm as a raw material. The advantage of using potatoes as a raw material over other grains is potato starch creates a more full-bodied creamier product.
Stafford Spirits have also added Irish Whiskey to its portfolio of products which is an important part of the export strategy. While the Bold '98 range liquid is sourced externally, the grain for their premium brand is grown on the Stafford Family Farm. This whiskey is currently ageing in Stafford Spirits own bonded warehouse on the Stafford Family farm.
